To qualify as an Awas Mitra, candidates need to meet specific educational qualifications such as a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Civil Engineering, a Diploma in Civil Engineering, or a Master’s degree in Rural Development. However, the minimum requirement is a 12th-grade pass. Selection will be based on merit, with preference given to those with relevant qualifications and experience.

Candidates will be appointed to clusters within their home villages, ensuring local involvement and understanding of the community’s needs. The district administration will select from a pool of qualified individuals, including previously employed Awas Mitras, members of women’s self-help groups (SHGs), Barefoot Technicians (BFTs), Bank Sakhis, and other local staff.

Incentives for Awas Mitras

Awas Mitras will receive financial incentives of ₹1,000 per completed house, with a 12-month completion deadline. For houses not completed on time, the incentive will be reduced by ₹100 per quarter. Additional incentives include a fixed payment of ₹300 for each house’s registration, geo-tagging, approval, disbursement of the first installment, layout creation, and subsequent construction stages like roofing.

Funding and Payment Oversight

Incentive payments for Awas Mitras will be made from the 1.7% contingency fund allocated under the PMAY-G scheme. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Janpad Panchayat will oversee the payment process, ensuring transparency and timely disbursement.
